GOD of War

This game HAS to be played, from start to (well I can't say as yet, "finish" because I am not there), but from top to bottom, this game has it all, and delivers on everything from, graphics, to difficulty, to presentation, to story-line. You name it this game does it and does it flawlessly. :bow The game is a must own for any "true" gamer.. :bow It is imo, in contention with RE4 for GOTY honors, its that damn good. I have been hooked on this game since friday, and it is a true masterpeice, I urge you if you own a PS2 to do yourself a favor and by or rent this must own game. :cheers

Hmm... so the hyperbole has some value. Well, I just bought a copy myself online, so we'll see. Everybody seems to be ejaculating over the game. Even on Penny Arcade, they summed up their impressions with the phase "SHIT HOT!" And now, there's a lengthly, and eloquently written I might add, review of the game on the site. I've been sloughing through DMC3, how does God of War compare to that Japanese gem?

its close if not better, I liked DMC3.. but GOW is something else.. I know everybody and their sister has a hard on so to speak for this game right now, but believe you me, its nothing short of great... but I advise you to try for yourself and see, I am not much on believing the hype.. but in this case, I make an acception.

I just got God of War and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory today, I haven't tried GoW yet but it looks truly amazing.

Bloody hell! My Playstation 2 won't play the game--and it's a brand new slim model too. I've got to send it in for a replacement, I've determined that it won't play certain discs that are on DVD media. I was really looking forward to playing it too... 🙁

Well, I just got the game and played up to the first savepoint. I see potential in the game. It usually takes me awhile to get into the groove of all the carnage, but I think GoW will take me there. Although, I still must say that there is still no game which embodies the difficulty and brutality of next-gen games like Ninja Gaiden, a game which I am missing even as I write this. Nevertheless, GoW does not disappoint.

BTW, not that I should be one to criticize difficulty, but don't you guys think that GoW is easier than say DMC3 or NG? I'm not complaining. Maybe I'm just used to playing games like this that kick my ass repeatedly before I get a clue, and I've grown to like that aesthetic (am I masochistic?). Still, I restarted the game and am now playing it on Spartan (hard) difficulty. It doesn't seem much different from Normal, but the game is still fun, I can't complain. Also, it's only been in recent years that I've learned to appreciate the challenge of games - I used to play strictly for story - and only very recently have I grown to love such challenging games, so it's just me, rambling

Stupid Sony sent me my replacement Playstation 2 (so I guess they don't really deserve that insult) and I played the game.

It's a solid action game, granted, but it lacks any real depth to get a score higher than 9/10 or be a GOTY contender. This is pretty basic hack and slash. The most innovative aspect has to be the context-sensative fatality-type moves, but even those lack any real creativity. After I beat the Hydra at the beginning of the game (which was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a game), I wasn't particularly impressed by anything else. I'm about 75% done, and not very motivated to play the rest, when I've got Digital Devil Saga to play.
