How to tell if a Saturn is 32 pin or 64 pin?

I really want to get a Saturn to mod and after reading a ton of topics it appears the success rate of moding a 64 pin Saturn is very minimal. So I need to find a 32 pin Saturn. My only real choice for doing this is on e-bay and since 99% of the people sellinf have no idea of their Saturn is 64 pin or 32 pin I need to find a way to tell the two apart.

So far from reading lots of topics it SEEMS that all Saturns made in sept/aug/oct 96 from the phillipines or taiwan or malayasia are 32 pin and Saturns made in june/july 96 are 64 pin. Is this assumption correct? I would really appreciate it if people could post their Saturn manufacture date and country and tell me if it is 64 or 32 pin. Also any other tips for finding a 32 pin Saturn would be greatly appreciated.

One final question, I've found a Saturn that was made in september 96 in japan, what is the likely hood that this is 32 pins?

Someone else started a thread trying to determine the same thing.

I'll see if I can find it. 🙂

Thanks, I really appreciate that link! I live the U.S and it appears that all his findings so far were U.S models so it really helps out.

I guess my best bet is to just go for a Saturn made between August - Novermber. Do you know if the country it was made in has anything to do with things, or does just the date matter?

EDIT: A few I've found were made in Japan and I was worried they could be the Sanyo models despite the fact that they were made between sept-oct. 96.

In your opinion ( I realize there is no hard and fast rule on this, but you've dealt with MANY more Saturns then I have so I imagine your opinion should be pretty good) Should I be ok taking a chance on either of these Saturns being the easily moddable 32 pin models? Or would you avoid the Japan manufactured Saturns?

1. Sept. 1996 Japan

2. Oct. 1996 Japan

2nd EDIT: I'm thinking the people I'm asking for the country info don't know what I'm talking about and just say Japan. Were any Saturns actually manufactured in Japan and does the country even matter?
