Once you get past the second-level domain name, you can make it anything you want because you control the local nameserver (assuming that you're the admin for that network). IIRC, ftp.parodius.com used to resolve to 127.0.0.1, I remember people sitting there going "how the hell is this guy getting into my ftp?"
