LED mod on skeleton saturn

Hey guys,

I'm trying to stick a cd access led in my skeleton saturn. I open it up, and low and behold it looks nothing like my other saturn (being transparent you'd think i would of noticed this ) . There's no ribbon cable connecting the controller port to the cd board., not to mention no hole for the led in the metal shielding. Argh.

Edit: Meant controller board to UNDER the cd board.

what do you mean ribbon cable connecting controller ports to the cd board... do you mean to the main board, that and i own 3 saturns and all three have the ports directly on the main board.

and why dont you just make a hole in the shielding, that shouldnt be hard at all.

In all the saturns I've ever seen up until this point, there was a ribbon cable going from under the cd board (the mobo), connecting to the controller board. The controller board is a separate pcb, and can be removed quite easily, and has a hole for the cd access led even though there's no led there.

Not so on the skeleton saturn, I'll post some pics this weekend if I can get my sister's digital camera.

This is the way ive always seen em', both 64 pin and 32 pin. not sure bout model 1's though. never seen a model 1.

If both your 32 and 64 pin Saturns look like that I'd be suprised. Not only should the ribbon cable have a twist in it if it's a 64 pin, but AFAIK it would also have a seperate controller board connected by a ribbon cable. There may be 64 pin Saturns that have the controller ports on the mainboard, but I've never seen one. *shrug*

well yes, the cable does have a bend.... but im more referring to the lack of the cable going to the controller ports. Oh and of course another difference is it has a 64 pin chip.

I wasn't going to bother mentioning that.

i must always get weird saturns cause every time i describe or show the guts of mine... mal always seems to say that it common for it to be the other way, like when i was talking about modding my 64 pin in another thread.

I'm sure you're type of 64 pin Saturn is completely normal - it's just that I've never seen one like that.

As for the modding thing, I have no idea what's going on there. The 8th pin has continuity to the 'A' part of the mod so if the particular mod is going to work with the Saturn it should work either way. *shrug*
