Problems yet again

Repeat after me, Gallstaff:

"I will install a firewall. I will update my anti virus software."

Make it your mantra, or something. :)

I'm a wild man. Once I wore two different socks.

Ok so which firewall program for free or for "free" would you guys reccomend?

ZoneAlarm is good for basic stuff. You can upgrade to Pro later. Idealy, you'd be using a dedicated Linux box as a gateway with a "real" firewall.

I haven't tried any of these, but you might find something of use. Smoothwall looks nice.

Apparently if you live in the US you can pick up a Linksys router/firewall (like the one I use) for $40 after the in store rebate. A REALLY good deal. Personally a dedicated firewall would be even more ideal than a linux box because:

1. It's cheaper.

2. Smaller.

3. Takes like all of 5 minutes to setup.

4. Harder if not near impossible to hack.

5. Not prone to crashing for whatever reason.

Like it tells me to enter the ip or whatever of the router into my web broser to acced the settings and I do that but it just comes up as a page cannot be displayed I cant access the web-based configuration but the router is functioning properly because my other computers are running fine off it and it's wireless goodness.

I had that problem at first with my router.

I can't remember what I did to fix it though, sorry. :huh
