lol.. dark wizard is getting though the first level and freezing in the 'chit chat' taht the badguy does.... any ideas? the sound clip keeps on rolling just get stuck with the castle background... grrr

I'll go out on a limb and assume you are using an emulator...

If you're using Gens or Kega, try enabling 'perfect synchro'.

If you are using a real Sega CD/Mega CD it sounds like a bad rip or burn.
