Shining: The Holy Ark

Hey folks. Aside from the actual Sega Saturn console, which emulators run Holy Ark reasonably well. I know Saturn emulation is at very early stages but I have heard a few people have had some success getting it to run. Look foward to hearing your opinions.

my guess is that it's a burned copy and he doesn't want to deal with:

A) Getting/installing a mod chip

B) Finding/Buying a pre-moddded system

C) Dealing with the swap trick

D) Buying a real copy of the game

E) Not being completely cheap

take your pick

There's also the possibility that xenomorph256 wants to use an emulator to run the game at higher resolution or has a technical interest in emulation.

I know that there are genuine reasons for wanting to run an emulator other than 'cheapness'. Considering that you can get most games running perfectly on a stock Saturn (using Satconv and the swap) with little hassle, trying to run an imperfect emulator just to play games seems odd to me.

However, the Saturn emulator authors are doing an excellent job and I hope that they have great success with their endeavours. 🙂

true.

I'm looking forward to the day that I can use emus for that purpose.

didn't mean to sound negative.

that's just the typical reasons

:agree

I'll admit that my initial reply was a little off topic, but I'd hardly call it hijacking.

I was unaware that there were emulators other than Satourne and GiriGiri. Nothing beats the real thing and it doesn't cost that much to make a modded saturn. Don't the consoles go for under $30 now? Plus $15 for a modboard.

The only one I've tried to run it on was the hacked girigiri, and that was just to see if it DID run. It does, and ok for the most part. However, sound is pretty bad and can get downright horrible at times. I much prefer running it on my actual Saturn. Saturn emulators are advancing, but I still can't recommend using them as any sort of replacement for a Saturn. Plus you need a fairly powerful machine for the legal ones.

Thanks for your feedback 🙂

The reason I wanted to know if it was playable on an emulator is that my saturn crapped out a while ago and yes, I'm too cheap to buy another one 😀

Yes, and we won't start talking about where to find it any time soon, OK?

Damn, I was just gonna post links to where to get it too! :sarcasm:

Hehe, it's not hard to find if you look hard enough. It's just a shame there havent been any releases since 1.0.4

It's probably because there were no new Cyberdisc releases. I didn't see any new titles on their website. The same games from when all the fuzz started.

Seems it wasn't a big success (the top games are mostly Genesis games), and all the whole Cyberdisc thing did was kill off GiriGiri for ever, since MEGADEATH won't be able to make further releases of it, since it's Sega's now.

It's a shame that MEGADEATH wasn't able to cut the same sort of deal as Stef (author of Gens) and still keep coding and doing releases.

Hell, Gens is open source now. :thumbs-up:
