The House of the Dead

my favorite modern light gun game series

and isn't the voice acting intentionally bad?

hotd2 sounds like the voice acting was done with a speech synthesizer or something, i mean everything's wrong, intonation, enunciation and it all sounds really unnatural too, that might be the fault of compression though

Nice game...

I don't if is just me, but whenever I play this with my light guns, I get my arm really tired!

Like, in the last boss I have to pause the game to take some rest...

I prefer VC2 over this, not only because it isn't a perfect arcade port, but mainly because it gets kinda boring... looks like we're always shooting the same way...

with HOTD 2, I thought the problem was it was Japanese voice actors reading English. (I thought the JAP version had English Voice Overs)

Like the beginning with the woman screaming DONT COME, DONT COME,

you see what I mean

:agree

It must be that I don't go round shooting things often enough.

Great game none the less.

I searched Ebay for about 2 years to finally get my copy, and to be honest, the game rocks, however I prefer the VC series. I can't compare to HOTD2, but I really missed different guns in HOTD, that's why VC2 is still tops for me.

Oh, and sometimes it gets really annoying, when a regular zombie wants more bullets than your gun's got chambers.

Good game, although it's depressing that the visuals aren't nearly as well done was VC1 or VC2 - instead it looks like a bad port/ rush job, even though it was by Sega itself.

But that's not a reason to get down on it. The gameplay is fantastic, and with light guns it's quite the trip. The voice acting lends something to be desired, of course, but maybe the B - Grade movie quality was intended. Who knows.

What's tragic is the PC port looked and played much better than the Saturn version. Perhaps that's the most disconcerting aspect of HotD.

I love HotD, but it is still a bit from Virtua Cop. Virtua Cop still has better gameplay and graphics. But the environments of HotD are cool, the enemies ace and the voice acting, as mentioned, is fun. (Nobody leaves here... alive....). The multiple paths were very well made to.

lol just realised why my post was deleted, I was tlaking about HOTD 3

Anyway I think HOTD for the saturn is excellent but, did seem to suffer from a bad conversion even for the saturn, the framte rate suffers at points and things do look a little blocky here and there (blockier than usual for the saturn I mean) vc and vc2 are superior, it would have been great if they had converted the arcade version to the Dreamcast but shouldnt be long before we can all play the arcade version on our pc's using Elsemi's Model 2 emulator

Yep, a very nice game indeed (I even got one to trade)

.

I like the whole serie. But it's indeed so that the VC series was better translated (graphical) on the Saturn. HOTD 2 on Dreamcast was better translated.

But still it is (even know) a very cool game and I'm not sure which game I would prefer between HOTD and VC. Actually I think those were the only shooting games on saturn which were compatible with the gun. Or are there others ?

Actually there's also:

Crypt Killer

Policenauts

Snatcher

Area 51

Maximum Force

Scud the Disposable Assassin

Die Hard Trilogy

Corpse Killer: Graveyard Edition

Death Crimson

Voltage Hadaker

Mighty Hits

As far as everyone on the site could figure out

There already is a PC version of House of the Dead and it plays great on my P2. It's about 16 MB compressed and about 124 MB uncompressed.

One of my mates bought the PC version of HOTD and it looked just like the saturn version, however he also bought HOTD2 and that was arcade perfect as far as I could tell.
