Kisuishou Densetsu Astal (Japan) (1M, 4M) - English v2.0
patch by KoolFiller.
Original xdelta patching kit by Derek Pascarella (ateam)
(Thanks!)
Requires "Kisuishou Densetsu Astal (Japan) (1M, 4M)" Redump compatible image
Instructions
------------
1. Place the disc image into the "redump_original" folder.
2. Run "apply_patch.bat"
3. Your patched game will be in the "patched" folder
There are 2 patches included in the zip file:
- One patch features Riggles "No Repetitive Attack Voices" edited .SND packs. (the "HIEY!" attack and "HARIYA!" throwing samples have been muted.
Attacks still have their regular sfx, all of Astal's other grunts, yells and voices are untouched.)
- The other patch is for if you want the "Repetitive Attack Voices", as in the original game.
Now that that's out of the way, here's some other details about the patches:
- Newly localized Title Screen reads "ASTAL: SHINING CRYSTAL LEGEND".
No need to resort to anything crazy to find a translation for the subtitle, the info is out there.
I used the font from the Option menu and recolored it. I think it came out pretty decent.
- All levels' title cards are now replaced with the English ones from the USA release.
- The Japanese bits in the Controller Setting screen are now replaced with English text from the USA release. The rest of the Option menu retains it's original slightly different English phrasing.
- The end of the game now uses the English language "Staff Roll" from the USA release along with the Japanese version of the "Shining World" end theme with the Japanese vocals. (English versions are just instrumental same as the Intro theme.)
- Added English subtitles for the song "Let Me Try Again" on top of the intro video borrowed from Riggles patch (the FMV still has the English VA "Astal!" but the theme now has the cut
JP vocals instead of being just the backing track).
The English translation for this video was borrowed from the following youtube video, which credits Chase Smith for providing the translation. So thanks to Chase Smith and Shiny Neko from youtube!

- Fixed the audio / animation timing glitch that was mentioned in the previous version at the end of the Frostbite! boss, where Astal says something like "You shouldn't follow me, you know. I don't want anything to happen to you.". The patch now uses the animation from the USA version for this part of the game, so the voice no longer goes out of sync, glitches, or cuts off.
- Available US English resources used to replace Japanese movies and voices.
By the way, the Japanese version of Astal gives you 5 hit points instead of 3, up to 9 lives selectable in options instead of 5, and infinite continues instead of just 1.
P.S. I'm including the original readme from Riggles' patch located here:
in the zip for reference.
