what is it on VHS or something?

You would need a capture card to put it on your computer and you can encode that in any format you damn well please with a mariad of free software.

and some software tp record it. ususally your video card will come with that. If that fails i have got stuff here that i can digitize with. plus we are on the same continent so that helps.

yeah... there is lots of software out there, especially free stuff. some are complex to set up others are simple.
