MAKE A SEGASATURN BUILT-IN MEMORY CART

Helder, if you don't plan on mass producing these boards, the oem Japanese back up ram carts have the suitable chips inside for harvesting. No reprogramming needed.

I didn't end up using a 47uf cap. @tzmwx Would you recommend adding the capacitor, or okay operation to leave it off?
I waited for quite a few months to see if anyone would pick this up and no one has so I am looking into providing them for people pre-assembled so I will be needing the chips. I ordered some to try out and hopefully they work out, I will post info once I have gotten all parts in.

I did see his video of this and if he releases the info or files like he has I will look into providing this as a complete board. Assuming we can get the required IC.

Just in case anyone is wondering I do plan to give @tzmwx a donation from my sales (once I have these built and working) since he did all the work of bringing this out to the community.

sorry.2 in 1 is only designed for my SS Portable,compatible with VA6 ,7,10,11,13,15,not for all motherboard,and installation is very difficult.

Could you release your schematic files like in the first post even if it is difficult.

Also will the PLCC-32 memory chip be too tall when it is on the PCB and motherboard? I am finding these to be much cheaper in cost than the tsop version of AT29C040A and if they fit without issue I will go with these.

block the cart?
I noticed the chips beneath when I was installing, but didn't really think about it. Could this be problematic in the future?

No problem, but the PLCC chip will have an impact. The thickness is too thick
What is a good PCB thickness to not have any issues with height? I was thinking of 0.8mm to keep it low with the IC on top. Do you recommend the typical 1.6mm?
 
This mod coupled with the Fram chip makes the system much more accessible to people new to the Saturn scene. Especially if they want to stay stock and use the optical drive. A no brainer in my opinion. Much thanks again to @tzmwx! I still have a few left over after my projects in case anyone needs it.
 
Hey everyone, I just wanted to say that ChronoLe got me one of these boards fast and for a fair price. Unfortunately for me the mod did not work out. I ended up having to remove it as it made my system stop functioning. I'm pretty sure I fried one of the chips when removing it from the original cartridge. I will try placing those chips back on the cart board again to see for sure, but my failure is not ChronoLe's fault. If you get one of these from him, you can trust that he's an honest seller.
 
I've made a few of these now with both used and new Atmel chips. If I pull Atmel chips from existing cartridges everything works flawlessly. However when I program Atmel chips with an Xgecu T56 programmer, the Saturn can read from them, but not write to them. This seems to happen regardless of the settings I try (ex. write protect on / off). After some experimentation I was able to fix this by "unlocking" the chips using the ram cartridge testing tool linked in the original post. I converted the ISO file to bin/cue format and ran the software from my Satiator to do this..

If you use the testing tool, does that do the work for you? Meaning, you don't have to program any of the chips before hand? Also, any chance you can let me know where you sourced your chips? A friend was trying to make some, but I think came across your same issues and he wasn't sure if he just didn't have all the right chips.

Yes,If you use the testingtool, you don‘t need a programmer.
