New XBOX 360 is coming

Isn't that just a rumor?

Yes it but I'm pretty sure it will happen. 🙂

Well on the other hand last time I waited for a new Xbox 1 smaller and MS never did one so I never bought a Xbox.

The only thing I had heard "confirmed" was the 65 nm core change. I had also heard the hd-dvd drive may come included. Time will tell.

I knew they had the cpu change planned some time in early 07, but since I knew of the heat issues, when I bought my 360, I bought a fan kit for it. It is a little loud and cost around $20 but well worth it for the time.

I highly doubt the new hd dvd drive will be included, but you never know, they may actually put in a faster or quieter drive.

HDMI port.. I don't need HDMI, as many companies speculate that hdcp? won't be implemented in HD DVDs until at least 2009, but you probably will get dvd upconversion and if you're lucky, Dolby TrueHD and other newer surround formats, which apparently you can't get through optical/coaxial digital output, only hdmi. The question is whether the usb cable on the hd dvd drive is able to carry that much audio and video data through it at one time.

The 360 also features 1080p over component, but not a lot of televisions support analog 1080p.

As far as a bigger hard drive goes, I think the 360 needs one a lot better. There are just too many games, videos, etc to store on the small hard drive, but luckily, you should be able to upgrade the hard drive (When one becomes available in stores) on the console you own now.

The intercooler? Supposedly those can do more harm than good by overstressing the power supply. Heck, weren't a lot of at least the early problems related to the power brick itself overheating and not the console?

I got a 360 for Christmas and I can't say I'll be too upset if this new revision turns out to be right around the corner. My 360 gets a bit on the warm side when playing games, but it's no worse than my old P4-M laptop. Don't have an HDTV and even when I do, VGA or component is good enough for me. A larger hard drive would certainly be nice, but presumably they'll start offering the larger drives as a separately purchasable peripheral so I can upgrade when the time comes.

I do wonder whether there will eventually be a DVI or HDMI adapter for the original revision. There don't seem to be enough extra pins for dedicated digital outputs, but it's not inconceivable that some of the analog ones could be rigged up for doule duty and they're only using cable IDs 1 to 4 out of 7 (presumably ID 0 isn't used to help identify when no AV cable is inserted). Supposedly the licensing agreement for HDMI doesn't allow proprietary cables, but I'm not sure if an adapter with an HDMI port on it would fall into that category or whether that just refers to an actual cable with HDMI on one end and a proprietary connector on the other. Regardless, I don't think DVI has that limitation.

but you probably will get dvd upconversion

That's already available on the 360.

Actually, video upconversion on regular dvds is through vga only. Using the component output, you'll just get 480p. That's the difference between hd dvd and dvd on the 360, as hd dvd, with no hdcp as of yet, is able to be played in 720p, 1080i, and 1080p.

With vga or hdmi, normal dvds can be upconverted.

As far as the fan messing up the 360's power supply, i've never heard of that or had a problem with it. It definately keeps the 360 cooler though..

If outputted through HDMI, the 360 can upconvert DVDs to 1080i/p. A 360 with HDMI would be great for me, because I could put away my upconverting DVD player and free up a component port. While I like my 360, I'm irritated that they're coming out with this upgrade at this time. If it were, say, three or four years from launch, like with the PStwo slimline, no comments. I had to send my 360 for repairs twice, the second time they gave me a refurbished one. If Microsoft offered some kind of rebate program, like send in your old 360, get a coupon for the revision, that would be great. I doubt it would happen (well, maybe...). Surprisingly, I find on my Samsung CRT HDTV, HDMI looks best, so I'd like the revision. If you're happy with the component's picture, no reason I guess.
