About the modchip installation

Ok i'm new on this board, racketboy mentioned this board to me and so i'm here to find out how to really install a modchip onto my saturn.

i talked to racket bout the model and from what i saw theres round buttons on the top of the case which would consider it to be a model 2 right? but from what i saw that it has 64pins. Now i saw this thread on here Example of modding sucess and i was wondering can only the red wire really be installed onto the 2nd port onto the saturns mainframe without the blue cuz i was wow cuz everyone else was talking about red and blue haf to be installed, And will this work with racketboy chips, Get at me with some anwsers when ya'll get the time and thanks in advance.

Well first off the model of your Saturn is determined by whether or not the CD ribbon cable has 20 or 21 pins. As you have stated since it is in a case with round buttons it is most likely model 2.

Secondly from what I understand some people have had success with the chips from Racket when installing them into a Saturn with the 64 pin IC.

The red wire is in all likely hood the 5v power wire and this must be connected. The blue wire is the Signal wire, you can solder it to the chip on the Saturn Cd board but you may not need to do so as the A+B method works about 99% of the time. If you look at the Modchip the point with the blue wire coming from it should be labled A and the point right next to it would be labled B. You should be able to just simply solder the blue wire to the point B on the modchip and it will work.

Its also important to note that you should install the mod board with the component side facing away from the CD board in the 64 pin Saturn.

Some people have reported that the Saturn may need to be loaded into the CD player screen then open the lid, then close it to get the start application to work. While others (my self included) have never been able to get the 64 pin Saturn to boot games. It will only recognize everything as an audio CD.

Thanks for the well detailed info ritual,is there a way to get the chip in without soldiering?Cuz i would'nt wanna risk frying my system or the chip out of its misery,Like could'nt i take some eletric tape or something and jus put the red wire on the 2nd port or something?

IMHO, securing the wire would with electrical tape would be potentially more problematic.

At best you've got the a wire coming adrift and the Saturn not working.

At worst you've got a wire coming adrift and shorting somewhere it shouldn't and the Saturn (or mod) being damaged.

Iv also always used solder, pretty much a permant hold.

I suppose if you wanted to get away without soldering you could use a hot glue gun to hold the power cable in. I only say this because id think this would be better than tape. Soldering the wire in place is relativly easy and you would hafta really screw up to ruin anything when it comes to securing the power cable.

On the chip you either need to connect the blue wire to point B or make a solder bridge, I see no real effective way of doing that other than soldering. Tape nor any other adehesive would be a good alternative in my opinion.

Is there any pics or instructions on how to get it to a+b?

Btw ritual do you have any instant messengers so i can keep in touch with you about this cuz it'll be a few days when my modchip comes in and i might need assistance.

I have an IM name, but Im rarely on. Your best bet to contact me would be to just leave a message here in the forums or send a PM. My website has a guide compiled from various soruces/experience for installing the modchip. Go to Sega Saturn, then Mod Chip Installation.

My Webpage

Im testing a newer design out, so if somethings not working right let me know. I hope the guide can help you.

site home page work but when i click the image it does'nt,i'm still waiting on my chip, should be here like next week,i read alot of the guilds such as where to connect the wires to and how to do the a+b technique, dont seem all that hard, its the soldering part i'm worried about.Just let me know when your site works again and i'll check it out.Cuz i can promise youif i can get this to work its hello sega saturn and good buy psone, dreamcast and all else,Alot of people just dont reconize how good the saturn was.May was'nt all that great with all the high tech gizmo graphics but the games were the bomb if you took your time to get to know how it gos.

Should be working. If not probably some sort of firewall setting. When you enter the site collects the reffering web address. (Just for me to see where most of the hits to the page are coming from) Some firewalls block this so I may need to do away with it.

If you still cant get in just use this:
