Burning problems

I have attempted to burn Shining Force CD with:

[*]Nero 5

[*]CDRWin 3.8g

[*]CDRWin 3.9c

[*]NTI CD Maker 6

It is in ISO/MP3 format.

I have an HP cd writer 9100

I have tried to follow the guides in the misc, which are for older versions. In both Nero and NTI, all I get is an audio CD. All of the tracks play fine. With CDRWin I get an error that says "Start DAO command failed on device 1:1:0. Device contains no disc."

My cue sheet looks like:

Code:
FILE "shining_force_cd.iso" BINARY

 TRACK 01 MODE1/2048

  INDEX 01 00:00:00

   POSTGAP 00:02:00

FILE "shining_force_cd_02.wav" WAVE

 TRACK 02 AUDIO

  PREGAP 00:02:00

  INDEX 01 00:00:00

and continues through..

Code:
FILE "shining_force_cd_35.wav" WAVE

 TRACK 35 AUDIO

  INDEX 01 00:00:00

Whats up with this? Does anyone know where I can download an older that is compatible on XP?

Well...

The error message that you quoted from CDRWin was leading me to suggest that you convert the .iso track to raw format (from 2048 bytes/sector to 2352 bytes/sector) and change the cuesheet accordingly. CDMage can do this conversion.

BUT...

The very last word in your post raised a huge red flag for me.

"XP."

Windows XP and CD burning. Microsoft saw fit to include their own little (simplified) CD drive interface with XP instead of Adaptec's ASPI driver, which is what Nero, CDRWin and just about every other burning application rely on.

So, go here and find ASPI 4.71.2 for NT/2000/XP (important not to get the 9x/ME version by accident) and install it.

Reboot, fire up Nero or whatever and try again. Betcha it'll work like a charm then...!

The aspi fix makes cdrwin know work. But it still won't boot. The ISO does work in gens. The ISO says it is a "NTI ISO file". I've never seen that before. Any clue? Also, when I try running SCDconv, it comes up file not found. The ISO does load as the Euro version.

I'm afraid Zero9 is mistaken. CDRWin comes with its own ASPI, *optionally*, not Nero though.

An NTI ISO is a Prassi CD-Maker image and can be opened by CDmage. You probably don't have a regular .iso file even though it has the .iso extension, in other words someone doesn't know what the hell they're doing.

But with CDmage, you should be able to open this NTI track and resave it as a regular Mode1/2048 iso track.

I solved the NTI problem. For some reason it was associating with NTI even though I do not have CD Maker installed. Once I installed an ISO program, the files changed their association to it and dropped the NTI part. However, I still can not get Shining Force CD to burn. Does anyone have a sample copy of their cue for it? I was wanting to compare it.

Even if files ending in .iso were associated with some NTI or whatever app under Windows, I don't see how that would have anything to do with trying to burn the game via its cuesheet. What matters isn't what Windows thinks the .iso file is, but what's really IN the .iso file. I'd still try opening the .iso with CDmage and seeing what CDmage thinks it is...! If it doesn't open as an .iso but does open as an .nti image then that would sweep all doubts aside for good... You'll just have to change the extension of your .iso file to .nti so CDmage sees it once you set the file-open dialog requester to .nti images.

Case in point, on my computer .iso files are associated with WinRAR 3.00 and show up with the WinRAR icon. Kinda hate that
although it's a quick and easy way of looking at the files inside an .iso
but I'd much rather associate .iso files with ISOBuster. Too bad the ISOBuster .exe doesn't actually take command-line arguments.

Nero includes it's own aspi on XP or a machine without proper aspi installed.

Think about it, it has XP support, they can't assume everyone installs aspi manually when 90% of the users probably don't even know what it is.

Taelon I was just referring to why the file was called an "NTI ISO file", not to why the game wasn't burning properly.

I checked it when I got home. And it does open as a mode 1 2048 .iso. So any new idea as to why it won't burn. I have only had difficulty with one other game, that being X-Mas Nights.

Christmas NiGHTS is a little tricky to burn as it is a dual data track game.

Could you give us some details about the files you have, the cuesheet and the actual problem you are having?

I finally got Shining Force to copy. I renamed it and ran SCDCONV again. This time it changed it. With Christmas Nights, I have a bin/cue rip. The disc says it successfully copied, but in my Saturn I get nothing but sound. Here is my cue:
