Since I've made a decent amount of progress since the competition entry, I'll officially announce this one and keep a status here.
The plan is to translate Lunar 2 using the PSX as a basis. Not sure if a dubbed or subbed version will be released first, depends on free time & difficulty.
I'm putting Lunar 1 mostly on hiatus until this is complete.

Dialog Extraction (Sega CD JP/ENG, SAT JP, PSX JP/ENG): 100%
Dialog Insertion: 50%, works but going to create a Gui tool to simplify.
Dialog Translation: In-progress. Haven't decided if we are updating or rewriting at this point. Depends how good or bad the WD translation is.
Item and Common Text Extraction&Re-Encoding: 100%

Scripting:
Action Scripting: 99%, Format decoded, extractor and re-encoder created. For some reason adding a timed dialog works in mednafen, on real HW the text doesnt print. Might be something to do with a parallel event that conflicted in the test i ran…. (Looks like I botched up the dialog insertion portion of my tool).
Action Script updates to use WD dialog or WD Audio: 0% (Corrupts the screen if everything doesn't line up, cleared after a single battle).

You’ll probably notice that the jp audio may not line up with the characters speaking in the english timed text dialogs… This is because WD took a lot of liberties with the dub (big surprise)

Menus:
System - 95%, need to adjust some text placement.
Battle/Shop - 90%, have a few minor glitches to clean up.

Subtitles:
Decompression: 100%.
Compression & Re-encoding: 99%
Translation of existing subtitles: 0%
Adding subtitles to videos that didnt previously have them: 0%

Battle:
Spell Text Outlined during battle: 0%
Monster Names: Translated (preliminary ones being used). 98%

Audio/Movie Dubbing: 0% Havent looked into it, in theory the tools are already there to do it... (Current plan would be to reuse WD audio)

This will end up being the best version of this game to play.

The Saturn version is really nice with the loading times and transition of battles. I saw this a year ago when I played the Japanese version the whole way through.
 
Cant wait to play this, I have both games on Saturn, but I haven't played this since I ran through the Sega CD version.

Thanks for the save state. For anyone else wondering, all the crests/rings descriptions are broken in the equip screen. They run some alternate code when displaying that i need to look into.
 
Some other oddities. The Zulan Avalanche is completely out of order with the characters dialogue.

The morphed is an easy fix, theres a Y offset i just need to adjust.

I’ll take a look at the dlog and try to see whats going on there.

Another thing i noticed was the destiny dice, i was wondering what those jp graphics were for. Ill send some screenshots over to the translator to see what they think we should alter the text to be. I think the WD vers did even/odd

Back on the crest/ring items — Do you happen to have a psx save of the game? I think when the crest/rings are selected under items all of the text appears on one line. Then when its equipped its split into 2 lines. I’ll search around for my old psx memory card too, i think i have a save far enough into the game on it.
The jp versions just print the kanji out in order and spill into the 2nd line on the equip screen if needed
 
I'll start up a Playstation playthrough as well. Fast forward on an emulator is a wonderous thing. haha

It looks like on the bromides the JP names were kept (they just label them bromide 1, 2, 3, ...). And then i had a machine translation on the details, which explains why they dont match the psx. I'll probably just leave those for now until the translator gives me their input as to what they want to do.

I went back to the psx decode on the rings/crests:

One-line items look like this -
Purity Ring
Wearer immune to poison

Two-line items look like this -
Healing Ring
Restores some HP after every |turn

I think when its in the item description it ignores the | character (since there is enough room) and when its in the equip screen it signals the game to print the rest of the text to the second line. I'll go ahead and code that up on the Saturn side. I think it should work.


What is the photo of the dice showing?
 
A few more. 1st picture the NPC if I talk with it will continue to give me the Bromide over and over again. It doesn't duplicate the entry in the inventory and nothing negative seems to come of it. Going to continue to play the PlayStation version to see if it happens over there. (Can't remember if it does) 2nd Picture I went to collect the Thieves' Staff after Lemina decided to cough up her treasure in Vane and was greeted with this message. It did give me the Thieves' Staff unannounced.

Currently on Disc 2 at the Blue Dragon's Cave. Edit couple more pictures of typos (kanji).
