sega has emulated the sega saturn but won't share

I got this eariler. Runs Saturn Bomberman PAL and Sega Rally PAL perfectly. I broke my saturn ages ago, now I dont have to buy another one - hurrah! All I need now is to buy NiGHTS

No, I'm using WinME, I just put the CD into the first Cd drive, change the region settings in the ini file, run the setup program & then run the emu as mentioned in the readme file.

Don't know how to help thou, just try reading the readme.damnit.txt file in full & you soudn't have a probs.

Make an iso of the game using CDRwin.. Then follow the directions in the readme file.

I myself cannot get any SAturn games to run from the CD.. But they do run fine from isos...

With Nights it wont run from the bin created from cdrwin the emu locks up after the produced or created by sega screen, it just gives a blank screen.

Any ideas or is it just that xp is shite?

First of all: Thanks to all who made this possible.

I too can confirm that under WinXP only images work right now. But I´ve got another question, performance-related. I´m running an AthlonXP2000 here with a GF3 and I don´t get near full speed in Radiant Silvergun. As soon as transparencies appear (the clouds in the beginning) the framerate drops a lot and the music begins to stutter. It appears to go well below 20fps later on, this is much better than anything that we´ve seen before but I wonder how it compares to other people´s experiences. Will try a few more games and post my results.

Oh, and btw, the emulator truly emulates everything, it appears that it emulates a save cartridge as well as the full bios, I was able to set it to any language I wanted and it stayed there (exit from the savegame manager, then you can change the usual bios settings). It even took my computers clock for setting the bios clock!

edit: forgot one thing, any multisampling setting higher than 2 gives me white polygons. Crappy Nvidia problem?

edit the 2nd: Vampire Saviour not running from disk image, is the Ram Cart emulation active? Or can it be switched on/off?

It doesn't run on Win98 either. Tried to run it directly from the CD and it works fine.

Please do not post on how to get so and so game working in a "special" version of this emulator. I don't want any flak from SEGA.

help?

The white polygons clear up after a few secs just keep playing
cool.gif

However I added the "popup" menu and no matter which multisampling mode I choose the textures are always unfiltered, I have a 128mb GeForce 4 ti4400 (Gainward Goldensample running o/c'd 300core 620mem) running the 43.45 detonator drivers.

To those with filtering working and a Geforce, what driver set are you using?

Cheers

Same problem here.. White unfiltered textures.. Could be because I'm using directx9a..

You need to change the mode _before_ textured polygons are loaded. Any currently loaded will become white

There's probably a good reason all the options were locked down.

i am using winxp and have to play game from isos

is there any other way to play with filtered textures?

i am trying to play panzer dragon zwei with filtering

I'm using the Detonator drivers, windows2000/XP version. I recall they being the lastest (41.09), since a while ago I went to Nvidia's website looking for more. The Nvidia control panel says it's 3.11.01.49.

Ah, I'm using a Geforce2MX400, 64MB RAM, w/ TV out, packed by XFX / Pine.

When I installed these drivers, DirectX applications ALWAYS had bilinear filtering on. I noticed that because I work doing stuff in Shockwave3D, and the bilinear filtering would keep going even if I set it to false for some textures. OpenGL runs fine, so I suppose this new GiriGiri is using DirectX.

I also switched back and forth from the 41.09 to the drivers that came with my videocard, so something might've been modified.

I have yet to test it in Win98 (I don't want reboot my 'puter ;_;), but I think it'll run unfiltered there, since the drivers works normally there.

BTW, SonicR screenshots :)

I just tested it in Windows98, and it ran from CD right away. Seems none of the several ASPI drivers I have here can make it work in Windows2000.

Ah, in Win98 it ran unfiltered, since my GF2 Win98 drivers work as "expected".

At least my GF2 odd behavior under Windows2000 became worth for something. I can take the best screenshots of GiriGiri ever :p

sega has emulated the sega saturn but won't share

I got it to recognise my cd drive under WinXP using the latest Adaptec ASPI drivers, the only problem is it thinks the cd drive is always open

It takes about 2 mins to load :|

It shouldnt take that long, but it does. The game runs quite well once it loads.

sega has emulated the sega saturn but won't share

lol 2mins is a bit over the top, about 5 seconds is closer to the real time between the Sega logo and the title screen, anyone know a reason why the music in nights just sounds plain wrong, I thought the music tracks would be an easy thing to do since they are just normal audio tracks arn't they?

Even if they are difficult to get working it still seems to be the only game where the music doesnt sound exactly like it does on a real saturn
ph34r.gif

sega has emulated the sega saturn but won't share

nights music is not cdda (run off cd)

it is run off the saturn spu and since the emu is probably not running full speed for you or the spu emulation is incomplete or the timing is wrong

i still cant get filter textures

sega has emulated the sega saturn but won't share

Well I'm getting 60/60 fps (f4 to display) so its not a fullspeed prob, I guess its probably down to the same reason some other sfx are a bit mad, and its usually always menu selection sounds that are wrong from what I've tested.

All ingame sfx seems fine

sega has emulated the sega saturn but won't share

Nights uses more customized audio synth drivers, and makes full usage of reverb/sound buffer effects effects to make the music play smooth (as example, when it plays a note, and stop playing it, the sound won't stop right away, it'll be gradually cleared form the soundbuffer, so when it plays the music tracks, you don't notice gaps between each tone).

AFAIK, the current GiriGiri doesn't emulate the sound buffer effects that much, so the synth music in all games is supposed to be much more midi-ish, when it doesn't happens to go insane (Radiant Silvergun music goes crazy sometimes).

Panzer Dragoon Saga music runs without glitches (speed aside, since I can't get full speed in my setup), other the the fact the smooth transitions between notes is missing. GiriGiri at least emulates pitch/tempo changing, that is the basis for PDS music (you can also see it in effect by holding either L or R during the cutscenes and dialogues - L playes them in slow motion, and R doubles the speed, and the voices will distort too, playing slower/faster).
