Arcade Gears Vol. 2 - Gun Frontier (Japan) - English v1.0
patch by KoolFiller.
Original xdelta patching kit by Derek Pascarella (ateam)
(Thanks!)
Requires "Arcade Gears Vol. 2 - Gun Frontier (Japan)" Redump compatible image
Instructions
------------
1. Place the disc image into the "redump_original" folder.
2. Run "apply_patch.bat"
3. Your patched game will be in the "patched" folder
Here's some details about the patch:
- Uses the official English arcade translation, except for two small spelling corrections: "Servivors">"Survivors" and "Wild Lizads">"Wild Lizards".
The intro is now in English, as well as both the good and the bad endings.
- Most of the song titles in the sound test were already in English except for five. I found English titles for two on official soundtrack albums, and for the other three I used a combination of fan listings to figure out what to use for English titles.
- Cleaned up some graphical glitches / jarring scene transitions.
Some scene transitions like between the intro/demos and the title screen, or at the start of the game had a single bad frame in the middle of the transition. I believe these are all fixed.
I also added a small fade between the intro and the title screen, and also small fade upon exiting the Option menu, where the screen transitions had been instantaneous and somewhat visually jarring.
- The retail game has an issue in the standard aka "Saturn" display mode where part of the HUD on the right side is outside the screen, which appears to cut off the frame and the "N" in "PUSH! START BUTTON". I've recentered the phrase on three lines instead of two, and redrawn the frame on the edge of the screen. Technically the HUD is still being cut off and still won't show all the bomb thingies when the meter is full, as in the retail game. But it looks much better now.
Of course, the Tate aka "Arcade" display mode doesn't suffer from the cut off HUD.
- Permanently unlocked the hidden "CREDIT" and "STAGE" options in the menu. I believe it was Bo Bayles who discovered the stage select cheat with the light gun.
- I've added a simple "SAVE = NO/INTERNAL/CARTRIDGE" function to the option menu.
This will allow you to save your settings as well as high scores to your chosen backup device.
This could be handy, say, if you wanted the game to boot up in the "Arcade" display mode automatically.
If you've changed any settings in the menu, upon exiting options a simple "SETTINGS SAVED" or "NOT ENOUGH SPACE - NO SETTINGS SAVED" confirmation or warning message should be displayed at the bottom of the start screen until the next button press. If there is some other problem with your memory you should receive a generic "ERROR - SETTINGS COULD NOT BE SAVED" warning message instead.
By the way, I haven't confirmed this on real hardware. But apparently you can actually play this game with a mouse?!
For some reason I tried switching the input to "shuttle mouse" in retroarch, and sure enough i could move the airplane with the mouse.
Left click was regular fire, right click was rapid fire, my middle button dropped bombs, and my side click even pauses.
I'm not saying this is the best way to play the game, but i think it's cool.
Has anybody ever tried this? I'd especially like to know if it works on real hardware.
