I bought Marathon back when it came on floppies.

yeah, i knew ice's sig was from marathon, even though i only played marathon a little bit. And i dont know if that quote makes an appearance in Halo, but there are lots of marathon symbols all over the place and the two games are related somehow (not sure which is the prequel and which is the sequel or what) and I'm pretty sure that the suit the master chief wears is a later version of the one worn by you in Marathon.
