Development of another new title in the series begun by Shining Force is just beginning, according to Sega public relations representative and online diarist Tadashi Takezaki. News of the new game's inception comes alongside the Japanese release of Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon, which hits shelves in its home country this week.
"The new history of the Shining series starts today," Takezaki said. "We've also begun planning for the next-next game (the fourth release)." He explained that he hopes to see no long breaks between future releases in the series, so that fans can keep following it on a regular basis.
Takezaki offered no details on what direction this new game might take the series, however, be it action, RPG, strategy, or something else.
Sega already has two other Shining titles announced -- Shining Tears, a PlayStation 2 action-RPG in the vein of the Shining Soul Game Boy Advance games, and a new PS2 Shining Force in development at what was once the Amusement Vision studio. Shining Tears is due for release later this year, while the tentatively-titled new Shining Force will be unveiled at next month's Tokyo Game Show in anticipation of its arrival some time in 2005.
The fourth new Shining game obviously won't break cover for a while yet, but we'll update with any new details that come our way.
