Dezaemon 2 Special Edition - English v2.0
patch by KoolFiller.
Original xdelta patching kit by Derek Pascarella (ateam)
(Thanks!)
Requires "Dezaemon 2 (Japan)" Redump compatible image
Instructions
------------
1. Place the disc image into the "redump_original" folder.
2. Run "apply_patch.bat"
3. Your patched game will be in the "patched" folder
Here's some details about the patch:
- Every single Dezaemon 2 Save Game Manager 4 user game, all launchable straight from the game disc.
It's easy to navigate too. Just place the cursor over the user ("U") slot and click "L" or "R" to toggle through the library, or hold to go through the list quicker, then click "A" to launch.
FYI this also loads the selected game into the user slot, ready for editing.
- The Dezaemon 2 interface has been carefully translated, yes with AI assistance.
The official 80 page manual was an invaluable reference, though it was of course also in Japanese.
I've been working on this for some time, didn't just pop it out over a weekend.
None of the included sample games have been translated at all.
If I ever find a legit human translator to review the interface text I will happily update the patch.
- Included AI assisted translation pdf of the official game manual, updated to reflect changes made to the Special Edition. Also replaced most thumbnails with new higher quality captures.
I also added a small bit of info to the "Game menus and displays" section about accessing the hidden options within sample game's menus.
(By the way in all the games you can press L+R at the options screen for extra options for more lives and bombs. From there you can hold "X+Y+Z" and press "L" for "Muteki Mode" aka invincibility.)
- This is the "Special Edition" so Slot 1 (S1) now launches "Hakozaki Nekko no Daibouken".
This is a weird, somewhat short game which I recommend any Saturn shooter fan play at least once.
I believe this is the only Dezaemon 2 sample game, other than the ones originally included on the retail disc, that was released in an official capacity. It was included on SatMag Sono CD (サタマガ ソノCD Vol. 1), a Japanese Sega Saturn demo disc distributed with Sega Saturn Magazine issue #1998/04. (https://segaretro.org/SatMag_Sono_CD)
"S2" now launches the previously "hidden" sample game "Elfin", and "S3" now launches "Vexsarsion". The original sample games (Biometal Gust, Ramsie, and Daioh P!) are now the hidden games (3 hidden games instead of 2 now btw). Just place the cursor over "S1", "S2", or "S3" and hold L+R to launch the respective game with the "A" button.
- The SatMag Sono CD disc included a "Sega Saturn Magazine Special Edition" title logo with a couple of extra accents. I've borrowed the "Special Edition" badge from there for the title logo in this patch.
- The attract sequence now plays demos from all 6 main games, and they take equal turns.
Also, pressing start during the demos will no longer swap the game in the user slot.
I have been imagining this hack since like 2001. I am thrilled to see it finally become a reality.
I hope people enjoy it, but be warned I do use AI as a tool.
So use your own discretion.
You'll probably want to stay far away from my releases if you're someone who thinks think that all AI projects are digital asbestos or slop.
Finally, I'd like to thank all the Dezaemoners out there (too many to mention I'm sure, but you know who you are.) Especially to the folks that put the Save Game Managers out there, and of course to everyone who made a game over the years which is included.
Thanks so much to you all!
Finally Finally, if anyone uses this to create new games I will glady add them to the disc in a future update (no troll games). I will also gladly create a self-booting version of your new game as well.
By the way, the Dezaemon 2 Self-booting games kit will be released shortly.
